2 days in Amsterdam

Some tourist thinks Amsterdam is a city of sin, but the truth is a city of freedom.  And in freedom, most people find sin.  John Green, The fault in our stars

My winter break is oficially over.  I felt happy that I took some time off to have fun and enjoy the holidays with my family.

I want to start the year writing about one of my favorites place in the world.  Since I remember I have always wanted to go to Amsterdam, maybe since I read Anna Frank when I was 12 years old.  We found direct flights from there to Seattle, the perfect excuse to finish our trip in Amsterdam.

We had 3 goals for the trip: Visit the Anne Frank house, the Van Gogh museum and the Heineken experience.  We did little bit of everything.  Besides that we spent the majority of the time wandering.

We walked in tiny streets made of cobblestones in different picturesque neighborhoods like the quite Joordan and the Nine little streets (De 9 straatjes), an area that has cute cafes and local stores. We crossed the canals and walked to the Vondelpark.

For many going to Amsterdam is just about the Red light district and the coffeeshops (aka where people can smoke and consume marijuana). In part is an aspect that make the city unique,  but besides that Amsterdam has much more to offer.  It's a city full with history, museums and good food. Amsterdam is so beautiful that leaves you breathless with all the bikes, canals and bridges.

I highlight of our trip was to have dinner with a friend I met in 2006 while living in Spain.  Thanks to them we took the ferry and explore the trendy Noord neighborhood and had dinner with a view of the city as our background.   The kind of memories that stay with you forever.

The food totally surprised me! As a cheese lover I ate copious amount of Gouda. I also love all the carbs we ate like the dutch pancakes (pannekoek), poffertjes, small baby pancakes and the best fries with mayo on top.

I don't have words to express how much I love the city!

Ps.  I highly recommend to pre-book the tickets for the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House, so that you don't waste time in line.
