A book with more than 500 pages  (5)
El tiempo entre costuras (The time in between) by Maria DueƱas
One of my favorites of the year.  The book takes place during the Spanish Civil war and the World War II.  It is the story of Sira Quiroga, a seamstress from Madrid that as a result of bad decisions travelled to Morocco, where she will face many difficulties.
It is a historical novel that will take you to Morocco, Spain, Portugal and thought the history of Spain.  It has a little bit of a love story and dose of intrigue.  After I read the book I found out that there is a Spanish TV series base in the book, available at Hulu. I highly recommend both.

A book se somewhere you've always wanted to visit  (3)
The vacationers by Emma Straub
I have always dream to go to Europe to spend the summer, as Europeans do: Long vacations at the beach. That was the reason I picked this book.  It is about an American family that go to Spain, Mallorca, to spend their vacations.  As all families, they have their differences and problems and they encounter them while in vacations.  It is not the best book but is something perfect to read at the beach/pool.

A book with a number on the title ★ (2)
Nineteen minutes by Jodi Picoult
This was the first Jodi Picoult novel and probably will be my last, it left me disappointed.  This book is centered around a high school shooting that lasted 19 minutes.  The story is told by different characters the shooter, his mom, his best friend.  I never believed the main plot and the twist at the end make it even worse.

A book with nonhuman characters   (3.5)
The girl with all the gifts by M.R. Carey
Besides Harry Potter, I am not a big fan of books with nonhumans characters.  The reason why I pick this "zombie book" its because is described as a girl with feelings.
The book takes place in London, after a "zombie apocalypse".  The main character, Melanie is imprisoned on a compound that seems to be a jail/school with the purpose to do research in the zombie mind.  I can't tell you more otherwise I will give spoilers. It is a good book and the end is unexpected.

Other books I have read this year:
52 books in 52 weeks. The DUFF, Luckiest girl alive, The book of unknown americans and The nightingale 52 books in 52 weeks. What she left behind, The husband's secret, Yes please and Everything I never told you.
